FrostDry

The Big Freeze Drying Revolution is Finally Here!

Unlike any other freeze dryer, ever.

It took many years of intensive R&D but we did it! It’s really unfortunate that your current freeze dryers are now outdated. You can still use them to produce products when high quality, energy consumption and retaining all good ingredients do not matter.

.

What is new?

1.. You don’t need expensive experts to do programming manually. Our AI will do it for you.

2.. Yield is 100% and the spillage is 0%

3.. Retains 97% or more of the active nutrients

4.. The moisture is lower than 1% without exceeding 30°C

5.. The whole process is AI-optimized and the fastest on the market

6.. It is environmentally friendly: saves typically 50% of energy and we use safe refrigerant.

7.. Cost effective

8.. It is not necessary to clean the whole factory after changing the product.

Our machine does programming better than any human programmer and it improves the process after every run if possible. We don’t overheat (spoil) the product as we know exactly what is the right time to go from sublimation phase to heating. It means better products and less energy.

If you think that you get uniform quality when you measure some samples’ interior temperature, you are wrong.

We have done academic papers about active nutrients. We have seen that some companies have used our studies and claim of retaining 97% of active components. This is true only when you use our proprietary method. Measuring yourself is believing.

When the humidity level is below 1%, all microbial activity stops and your product remains perfect for decades.

We don’t misuse time to overheat products or melt ice inside the chamber – we do it simply better.

Today it is essential to save energy and we save up to 50% what you may use today. Our refrigerant is CO2; it doesn’t explode, it is not poisonous and it is cheap. It’s Global Warming Potential is only 1; currently EU max is 2500 units.

When you change the product you are drying, you have to clean the whole environment (floors, walls, ceiling). In our case you don’t have to do that; it is often enough to clean the cart with trays.

What is amazing, you get all these benefits and still you are more cost effective than others using old freeze drying machines.

How do we do it?

We do the main task using AI-software after measuring the process very accurately. We could even say that our machine is more software than hardware. We have made a number of hardware inventions, as well.

All this is the result of 10 years (since 2013) of intensive research and development. Now we are ready to deliver it to other organisations, as well.

Can we Deliver?

Yes, we can!

*** Our standard size machine dries 1500kg products but due to our modular concept, we can deliver other sizes, as well

*** We have developed and tested the concept since 2013

*** Hundreds of products have been tested in the process

*** Infinitely scalable

*** Unprecedented product quality

*** Medical and haute cuisine grade

What is freeze drying?

Basically you put frozen products to a chamber containing very cold condensing plates (-50°C in our case or lower for special medical cases). Then you suck up all the air which corresponds to the air pressure 200 km above your head.

This starts sublimation where water is transferred from the product to the condensers. In the second phase we heat the product up to 30°C to get rid of the rest of the moisture.

You can freeze dry all food products. The result is authentic flavor and nutrients of your favorite fresh food, preserved with absolutely no additives and with a sustainable, efficient method. It turns fresh food into healthy instant snacks or if you prefer, placing them in water turns them back to fresh. Just the way they were before they were dried.

All this applies to fresh raw food and cooking equally well. Fresh salad is just as fresh and crispy as it originally was, dry meat can be rehydrated and cooked into a juicy rare steak and gravlax is still gravlax, with no heat-induced discoloration.

Freeze drying applies to medical material, too, and even to wet documents.

How did we come to this?

Jacques-Arsene d’Arsonval invented freeze drying already 1906 in College de France in Paris. WW2 blood plasma was transported freeze dried from USA to Europe. Nescafé Gold®, 1965, was the first real commercial application of this technology.

All current freeze dryer vendors use basically same technology from 1960s. We have stepped to 2020s and we will continue to develop it further.

About us

The company background is based on extensive research and development in company Nature Lyotech Oy by Dr.Sc Tech Miia Helanto and M.Sc Eng, C.Ht Clin Henri Helanto for 10 years and to practical experience using their own freeze dryer machines for 8 years. Prototyping this new technology started in 2013 and they made programs for hundreds of products.

Extensive work revealed how freeze drying can be made much better to retain all valuable properties. After many tests, the optimal process was invented and it took still a couple of years to formulate findings to algorithms, which were later moved to artificial intelligence programs.

A new company FrostDry Oy was established 2021 to manufacture equipment at our factory in Hirvensalmi in Finland. We use best subcontractors to build components and we do final assembly and testing. The new machine can be put into operation very quickly and with minimal training as AI takes the biggest burden from the operator.

Hannu Tamminen has been involved with freeze drying since 2019 and takes care of marketing. His background is in software technology.

Joonas Ojala joined soon after and established the manufacturing site to Hirvensalmi. Besides being CEO of the company he is responsible for mechanics and assembly. He has extensive experience in manufacturing technology.
